Hello from Texas
Good day all,
I just got into using straight razors, still bleeding occasionally from the shave two days ago new.
Actually what got me started is the barber I go to, a Rooster’s franchise, sells the Art of Shaving supplies and when added to my normal razor it made things so much better. This led to remembering the occasional straight razor shave I would get overseas while I was active duty in the Navy. So I picked a Parker SRB Straight Edge Barber Razor and Shark Stainless Blades from Amazon so I could try it without having to worry about the sharpening or whether it was a good razor as I’ve had the barbers use them to clean up the neck and ear areas. In Texas if you are a Barber vs. I think a Stylist you can use a straight razor. I have also been using the AOS supplies.
Well like probably everyone else who has tried to learn this on his own it has been a bit of a bloody ordeal. So before I ended up with a face scarred up like a horror movie extra I started to do some googling and found here. Already started to do some reading and am seeing where I am making mistakes.
I am in my 40’s, work for at&t and am in the Navy Reserves. Have hobbies galore but my main two are knife making (no razors as I flat grind) and cooking. Actually cooking is what lead me into knife making. I live in the Dallas area but enjoy traveling with my wife “just because.” Last year we went to NOLA for New Years just because for instance.

Welcome to SRP. Don't forget to check out the WIKI section which is a wealth of inforamtion on Str8 razor and such. When starting out it is most important to have a "shave ready" razor. Honing a razor is an art unto itself.
Have a nice day

You are from the Dallas area, I see. Well, I live in Arlington, Tx. Unless we get another earthquake caused by natural gas drilling, possibly, that is pretty near Dallas! We should get together some time.
I can hone up a blade for you while we visit. Or, just visit. Anything. PM me or email me at [email protected].
