    Default Glad to be aboard!

    Hello All,
I have just purchased a Dovo Ebony Spike and cannot wait to get started on reestablishing a link to the 'Ol ways. Unfortunately, I am currently in Iraq, with 2 months left until returning home. I shave my head and face with a Mach 3 every day and just read an article online about how the costs of disposable cartridges are rising. With a new baby on the way, I can't afford to keep up with this, so I read your advice and wait for my first time with bated breath! Thank you for an easy to use and outstanding site. I'm looking forward to more interaction with you all.

    Scouts Out!

    Welcome to the site!

I would also like to add, thank you for your service!

You're definately in the right place to get started in the straight razor world, and you'll find us a friendly bunch. If you have any questions just ask, and you should get an answer pretty quickly.

Have a read of the Wiki articles linked in my sig line as they will really help you on your way, and should hopefully answer some of the questions you might have.

You'll also need a strop for use before each shave, and there are several vendors here (in the vendors Corner forum) who sell high quality strops. The SRD strops are exceptionally good, and are also modular so if you nick the leather while you're learning you can order a replacement leather section.

Other than that, make yourself at home, stay safe out there and good luck with your first straight razor shave!

Welcome to SRP. Thanks for your service. Be aware that there is a learning curve with using a straight razor. I'm assuming the razor you ordered is from a vendor who guaranteed it to be shave ready. If not you may be lucky or you may not. One way or the other notice the link to the 'beginner's guide' in Stubear's post above. Check that out if you haven't already. Particularly Lynn's post with suggestions for the 'first straight razor shave.' Also read my sig below for the old barber's advice on avoiding nicks and cuts. Still working for me.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
