Newbie From Stetler,AB CANADA
Hello Everybody!
What a Fantastic forum. Ive read a lot and most of the wiki's and it's great from beginners to honemiesters! I have a Dovo "Best quality"5/8 half hallow carbon. I'm still trying to get it honed right!! might give it a few more trys before sending it out OR try to find some one in my area <Red Deer> to help me with it. I've shaved 4 times so far and getting better at it.
I think iIve rushed a bit, to get into everything right away. As I've read it's best to learn to SHAVE fist, then Hone. etc one thing at a time... I also wish I would have found this Forum before I started. Aslo I Cheaped out on my supplies I got. While they are good, I should have got a wider Strop 3" and Honing stones.
Andy
If there is any one Near Red Deer that can Help with my honing please message me.

Hi Andy, and Welcome, to a fellow Albertan! Lordy, we're practically neighbors!
I'm certainly not a honemeister but I'd be more than willing to help you out.
PM inbound.
Welcome to SRP BTW.
What stones are you using to hone with?
Learning to hone and shave all in the same week would be a pretty big accomplishment. I'm seven months in and my shaves are still ramping up in quality. Honing is almost easier than the shaving part, but it still is an art form that takes a lot of practice to get.
Let me know if there's any thing I can do to help you out! We're pretty isolated out here in the boonies, so I'm glad for the opportunity to extend a little solidarity to a fellow straight shaver!
Cheers,

Thanked: 1195Hello from Edmonton, Andy!
Plenty of info here to get your feet wet in honing. In addition to wdwrx's generous offer there is also sebell in Calgary, and dnjrboy here in Edmonton, who also does restorations.
Good luck,
Ryan

Thanked: 74Since my name was mentioned, I thought I'd drop a post to say 'Hi'
Welcome aboard.
Don't worry about the size of your strop. 3" is a relatively new luxurious width. 1.5 - 2 inches will work just fine.
