Thanked: 0good shave needed
Hi I live in Ireland always wanted to use a straight razor but there is no way I would have time in the mornings as I dash out to work.
would like to try a straight shave out at the weekend.
thought it would be prudent to get a few hints from my hair-dresser and then try it myself.
I am looking for a decent starter kit and if all goes well would consider
buying a real good one.
appreciate any help and advice but I would like to buy a kit soon and get my first straight shave to see if there is any real difference.

As you live in Europe you may want to buy a kit from a European vendor to avoid VAT.
RasurPur usually gets thumbs up from those that bought from Martin.
You can try UK based Executive Shaving but do not buy one of their Cyril Salter razors: they are useless.
Another vendor worth trying is Koordenwinkel in Antwerp.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

Welcome dundrod, all the info required to succeed is here. Don't expect to much from your first few shaves. This is a very enjoyable hobby, but does require a bit of dedication to do well. Your mornings sound hectic, so shaving at night would give you the time to relax and enjoy the experience. Good luck on your journey, and keep us posted as to your progress.

Thanked: 0thanks
thanks guys for a quick reply -- yes I am looking forward to the new experiance - I contacted my son in Japan to see if he could sort me out
but I should have said cut throat as his friends from Japan were more familiar
with that name than straight razor - sadly he left Japan the next day.
I would like to buy from Japan but at the moment not sure what to get.

I too always rush out of the house in the morning. That's why I shave in the evening. With a straight I get such a close shave that I'm fine for the next day. With any other type of razor, even shaving in the morning, I get 5 O'clock shadow about noon. Also in the evening you have time to appreciate the great shave instead of rushing out to work and dealing with other things. Also, in the evening, other people can appreciate the BBS face and that can be a real nice thing. Real nice. (wink wink, nudge nudge...) ;-)
