Thanked: 2New and intimidated.
Hello all,
I do not know what got me interested in getting a straight razor but over the past couple of days the urge to get one has been growing. After spending several hours reading material I am more intimidated than ever. So I have decided to get a used shave ready razor and not 100% what I should be looking for. So half or less hollow? Round tip? It also appears that most of the razors in the classified section are sold, atleast in the first couple of pages.
Well anyways, hopefully I will be joining you in this passion but only time will tell.

Welcome to SRP! If you just take it slow by shaving just your sideburns and cheeks until you get used to holding the razor you'll be fine. Razors on the classifieds forum do sell fast. Be persistent. and you find a few that haven't sold yet, but you have to be fast. There are also some vendors in the Vendor's Corner: Vendors Corner - Straight Razor Place Forums that sell shave ready razors. Some are new and some vintage and just honed to shave ready and some completely restored.
Be sure to read through the Beginner's section of the WIKI: Straight Razor Place Wiki“If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.” (A. Einstein)

Welcome welcome... the classifieds fillup pretty regularly, so keep an eye open and you'll find something. In the meanwhile, you can read up on the forums and wiki, and you'll be more prepared when you find the right one.

The only person who can answer the question of which razor is right for you is yourself. Grab one that catches your fancy and fits your pocketbook. In a few weeks or months get a second which is markedly different from your first. Sell them as you become enthralled with new ones which suit you better. Soon you will be in subjective a position yourself to argue with others about which razors are best.

I'm told that all the shave ready razors should shave basically the same. The thinner ones perhaps can reach places the wider ones cannot. The really thin ones I think were known as "mustash" razors because they can get the spot just under the nose easier.
I have two Dovo 5/8 carbon steel as my first razors.

Thanked: 2Thanks all for the replies. I purchased a razor from Holli4 and I won an ebay auction for a Wade and Butch in excellent shape. One round point and one square.
