New guy in Iraq
Hello everyone,
I have been lurking for a while now & decided to join today. Love the content of this site and the reviews have really helped me out. I recently started wet shaving with a DE Merkur and am looking to make the leap to a straight. Not really sure if Iraq is the best place to start but I think I am going to give it a shot anyway.
I started using a really cheap shavet a couple of days ago. I got this thing in an Iraqi Shop for $3.00 and have been using these Turkish "Lion" DE blades. It's been interesting...
Started watching the Youtube videos recently as well, the internet connection is so slow that it takes 10 minutes to load a 3 minute clip. Forces me to really pay attention though.
Thanks again, -Matt

Hi Matt!
Welcome to the site and thank you for your service..!
It sounds to me like you have done your research which will really help you on your way as you learn more. I also find that the transition from DE to straight makes things easier as well, as a lot of the technique carries over like watching the angle of the blade against the skin, lathering and mapping your beard growth.
Welcome again, have fun and stay safe out there!
All the best,
Stu

Thanks
Stu,
Thanks, I love this forum... definitely international. I work with several Englishmen over here. Great guys the lot of them.
The DE has been amazing and the shavet was eye opening. I can't wait to get myself a straight. I guess my main concern is with the maintenance. Not a lot of room to set up a strop and or hones. Plus I have to mail all of that stuff home at the end of this tour.
Still, if I can find a deal on a good, shave ready strait Imay take the plunge anyway. I am thinking I may be able to get through the next 4 months with a paddle strop...any thoughts?

Welcome to SRP and thanks for your service. Yes a paddle strop would serve just fine. Read my sig below to avoid nicks and cuts.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
