Thanked: 8Forum newbie from the Netherlands
Hi guys (just assuming you're all guys, sorry girls)!
I just stumbled into this forum looking for pictures of classic razorblades and I've posted in this topic:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/begin...ght-razor.html
I've used a straight razor since I was 21, because it was a lot easier for my style of beard. Since then, I've found it a small investment in something I can use for the next 50 years at least.
I wonder what I can find on the forum... See you there!

Welcome!
Glad to hear you have always used straights, I wish I could say the same thing. Unfortunately I was an M3 victim for a while... But now I've seen the light..!
You're in the right place to find pretty much all there is to know, so make yourself at home and enjoy!

Thanked: 8Hi there and thanks for the quick reply! I feel welcome already.
I have to admit I started shaving the fuzz off my cheeks with my dad's old Gilette with a screw-in blade. I tried several 'scrapers' after that, but when I grew some really long side-burns I noticed it's just easier to keep them even with one sweep of a nice long blade.
I asked my barber where to purchase what he called a 'neck-knife'. (he only used it to shave the back of my neck). So at 21 I started shaving with a replacable straight razor (Jaguar, I think) and then bought the blade I still use today, almost 14 years later. It's a simple, no-nonsense Solingen blade. I've loved shaving with it from the first cautious sweep across my neck and I've sculpted some wicked looking beards with it 'back in the day'. I find the precision of a straight razor-shave unrivalled by any wet or dry scraper.
I've shaved with cream, foam, soap and oil and will compare my experiences with the respective forum-topics.
I recently found a picture of a 15th century straight razor and I'm having a smith make me an accurate copy of it. I'll let you know about my experiences when I get it...
