Thanked: 0Hi from england
Hey, just joined today. Looking to buy my first straight in the next few weeks, and very excited about it ! Have found cartridge shaving a real nuisance, especially since the blades are only comfortable for the first 2 or 3 shaves, then it becomes painful.

Welcome to the site. With time and patience you will earn your "wings" and get very good shaves. Don't expect it to happen right away. Enjoy the journey not just the destination.

Welcome from a fellow Brit!
The first port of call should be the Beginners Guide linked in my sig line below as that will really help you on your way. But if theres anything you're unsure about, please feel free to ask!
When you first start you'll probably find there is a bit of a learning curve, but the results will improve pretty quickly and hopefully you'll enjoy the ride! Its turned what used to be a daily chore into something I really look forward to..!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanked: 0Thanks guys. So far i have found pretty much all the information i need. One questions though : how do you dry the razor after use, and how often do you need to use oil to stop it rusting ?

Welcome ! I use a piece of tissue, carefully wiped along it and have a bit of cloth with oil soaked in and use that every couple of days. I have not had a problem with any of the three razors i am using so it seems to do the trick !

The other thing that I would recommend is drying between the scales with a piece of tissue so that you dont get any water drops in there.
If you have water in there as soon as you close the razor the blade comes into contact with the drops and it'll rust before tomorrows shave..!
Stropping after the shave also helps get any microcrud off the edge as well, and helps extend the time between honings.

Welcome to SRP, +1 On what Stu said. You have some good resources available to you in England. I almost always oil my blades after use. It's personal preference thing. Oxidation is a bad thing as well as rust.

Welcome to SRP. Read my sig below to avoid nicks and cuts. +1 on the tissue to wipe the razor after use, I also do 20 round trips on the leather strop before wiping the blade with a rust preventative.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
