    Default Newb

New to sr8 razor shaving and haved manage two attempts so far, I have the knicks on the cheeck as proud new to shaving reminders. I have a couple of shave ready razors from Lynn and a nice bridle strop from SRD. I am looking for a little advise about lather, althogh all advise is welcome. I have a very old brush and am wondering is it me (most likely), the soap, the brush or the alignment of the planets. Two different soaps one is SRD unscenteed, the other a cheap puck from the local drug store melted into a mug. My wife thinks I am nuts for cutting my face up trying this but somehow I like it enough not to want to stop.

Welcome to SRP and straight razor shaving!

I'll pass along some advice given to me when I started that minimizes the risk of nicks: Pretend the razor is a bird. Hold it tight enough so it won't fly away, but not so tight that you'll hurt it.

Never, ever grip tight and push the blade across your face! Pretend you're just wiping the lather off of your face with the blade.

As for lather, I'm addicted to uberlather. Here is a video that shows you how to make it: http://straightrazorpalace.com/video...er-lather.html

Although I successfully wet-shaved for years using shave soap, water, and a brush, uberlather is IMHO far superior.

    Good luck and have fun!

Thanks I will look into uberlather. I'm not to worried about the wife thinking I'm crazy. I'm learning that it is just part of being married to a good woman.
