Thanked: 0Hello from the midwest.
Accidentally posted in the wrong area. Correcting my mistake.
Love the forum, just bought my first real straight razor. Definitely excited to start using it. I really appreciate the wealth of information provided here.
Hope to start posting regularly!

Thanked: 3795Welcome to SRP!
Where are you in the Midwest?
What was the razor that you bought?
Do you know if it is shave ready or not? Starting with a razor that is not shave ready is a good way to lose interest in straight razors very quickly.

Thanked: 0I live in Lawrence, KS.
The razor I purchased is most likely not shave ready. Probably going to send it out to be honed, etc. I picked it up relatively cheap on ebay and really don't know much about it. Here's a link that ought to work to see it.
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
If you have any feedback, let me know. I figured, for the price, it seemed like a good purchase.

Thanked: 3795The link did not work. Can you tell us the brand of the razor? That will let us let you know if it is a serviceable shaver or a razor shaped object. Some of the latter are listed HERE.

Thanked: 0Sorry about the link, I figured it would only work if you were logged into the account.
It's an antique J.R. Torrey Razor, Co. razor. It has an emblem that says "156 The Barber" on the side. The scales are just generic looking plastic. There doesn't appear to be any rust or serious pitting, but I've only seen some photos. I picked it up in auction for $5.24, so I figured paying to get it honed/restored wouldn't be a bad deal. There don't appear to be any chips in the blade or anything of that nature, and it seems "shiny". Listed as "in very good condition."
That's about all I know about it! I'm excited, either way. Hopefully it'll sharpen and keep an edge.
Thanks!

Thanked: 3795That is an excellent razor. If you can make it to meet up with those guys on the 8th, you will be ready to go. Do you have a strop yet? You'll definitely need one.

Thanked: 0I plan on picking up a strop. I was going to probably snag one after I send my razor out to be honed. I think I'll try to make it up on the 8th. Sounds like a good time!
Thanks!
