Thanked: 4Newbie
Hello,
I've recently decided that I'd like to experiment with straights and found this place. I see there is lots of info to study on and have been doing so for a week or so now. However, since I posted today, I thought it appropriate to introduce myself.
I used to hang out at Spyderco's factory forums under the same screen name, and for some time took up making lanyards and fobs out of parachute cord, as well as an affinity for hawkbill blades for EDC.
I am also into shooting, and have been actively involved in the open carry movement for the last few years.
I look forward to learning a lot here (especially getting an edge) and hope to eventually contribute.
Thank you,
ghostrider

Welcome, ghostrider!
You don't run with the average old Joe's causes and interests, do you? But, then, who am I to talk, being interested in straight razors. I get my share of bad jokes or blank looks from friends about my love of straights too.
We are just deep, contemplative, mysterious types!

Thanked: 4Thanks all.
Still learning a lot.
So far I've managed to get a cheap Paki (pulled trigger to early on that one, but I'll use it for practice). A Genco, and a Case Temperite.
I'm trying to use the Paki to learn honing on, and right now all I have (besides some home made strops I've been using for knives) is my Spyderco Ultra fine rods, and a Lansky Blue Sapphire hone. From what I've read, some seem to consider the Spyderco Ultra fine to be adequate for honing, but haven't seen much about the Lanksy. Everything else I have for honing is for knives, and while I usually manage to get a decent edge, it isn't the same for a straight razor.
