Thanked: 0Super newbie here
Just visited this site due to a Google search and it seems like a great community and environment here. I'll be happy to converse and achieve the required skills to brilliantly shave with a straight razor. As of yet I do not own a straight razor. However, I would like to purchase one and begin my path to the goal of mastering straight razor shaving. I'm from New York, and I'm glad to be here!

Hey Tag! Welcome. That is exactly how I stumbled upon this place and the wonderful world of straight shaving. I would suggest you visit one of the vendors' websites who advertise here on the forum and pick yourself up a brush, strop and razor. You could also make your first purchase on the classifieds here. It is important that you get a "shave ready" razor so if you purchase from one of the vendors or the classifieds, you will get just that.
By the way, where in NY are you?

Thanked: 0I live in the Bronx. I visit Queens and Manhattan on a regular basis though, just because I am far more interested in Asian culture (parts of Queens and lower Manhattan) along with the vast amount of stores in Manhattan. I became deeply interested in straight razors because a book/website The Art of Manliness brought it to my attention. I do plan on buying a razor soon.

If you happen to be from New York City please visit Pasteur's pharamcey where you will find a lot of the hardware that you need to shave with a straight. We heritics talk about the shop a lot.

Why did you have to mention Pasteur's. I just did some research online and they seem to carry EVERYTHING!Knowing that I live so close to such a place is very disheartening to me as I may need to look for a second job.
Next weekend is my birthday and my girl and I were supposed to go away for the weekend. I just e-mailed her and told her to scratch those plans....we are going to Pasteur's instead. Well, we shall see if she buys it....if she really cares about me, she will put her foot down and say no. Otherwise, I will come back with a full report.
