Thanked: 0Hi all: McJ here
Hi all,
My name is McJ and I got attended to this site through a pal of mine.
Recently I took up straight razoring after buying all necessary equipment.
Judging by the de decreasing amount of necessary blood transfusions and plastic surgery I'm on the right track...
All joking apart: I'm quite happy with the results and the progress so far.
Great site this is: looking forward to learning and sharing here.
Kindest regards, McJ.

Welcome!
It sounds like you are off to a great start..! If you dont mind me asking, what kit did you get?
If you havent seen them already, the Wiki and other articles linked in my sig line will hopefully give you a few pointers, but it sounds like you are doing pretty well on your own! Good job!
If you do have any questions please feel free to ask. Other than that, make yourself at home, grab a beer and enjoy!
Best,
Stu

Thanked: 0@ Stubear: thanks for welcoming.
My kit:
Straight razor: J.A. Henkels Zwillinswerk AG Solingen Germany 7/8 with beige plastic scales,
Strop: Uniflex, razor strop Co. Illinois, U.S.A "992" with leather and "Barber's best" "chalked" fine linen sides (what ever all those well sounding marketing terms may mean),
Brush: Simpson "Commodore" best badger X1,
Shaving cream: Taylor of Old Bond street "Sandalwood",
After shave: D.R. Harris "Sandalwood" and Pinaud "Clubman".
Browsed though this site already and read a lot.
Also went on the internet and watched many tutorial videos.
Learned that there are "general best practices" and a lot of subjective rituals around these.
That's probably what makes it fun, because then everyone has something to share with others on fora like these.
For me it's first important to get the basics sorted and then I might be able to join the "pro" discussions.
So: for the time being with above mentioned equipment I'll stick to WTG and try not to bleed in any way shape or form...
Kindest regards, McJ.

Sounds like you're approaching things in the best way and taking your time. Thats probably the most important thing to do, as a lot of people think that the shaves with a straight will be better than their M3 right from the off. It can actually take a few weeks to get the technique down so you're doing the right think by sticking to WTG and taking your time...!
Good luck and keep us posted!
