    Default New Shaver

I bought a razor from The Art of Shaving. It is a Thiers-Issard. Does anyone know if this is a good razor? Also, I was told I would have to hone it after every four shaves. Is this true?

TI is a good razor. It better be for 200 buck or so at least. I don't know if AOS sells their razors automatically shave-ready or not, but you might want to ascertain that. As far as honing every 4 shaves, somebody led you astray there. You probably won't have to rehone that razor for at least 4 months if you strop it properly. I'm just wondering- How do you spend at least $200 on a razor and then post a question on this board asking if it's any good?

I just checked the AOS website. I had no idea they had TI razors that are made for them that sell for as little as $135. Sounds like an excellent value for a such a highly esteemed manufacturer. Let us know how you make out?

flyman is correct, you should get 3 months or a bit more with just stropping. After that, if you've had it pro-honed, all you'll need to do is to give it half a dozen light strokes on a barber hone or a 12k stone of your choice and you're right back to a brand new razor.

Your razor will not likely be shave ready and will have to be sent out for honing.
