    Default The New Guy...

Hey everyone. Been on this site doing some surfing around, researching and shopping. I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Conrad, 31 yrs old, living and working in the Middle East, Bahrain. I just shaved with a Dorko razor I bought off a member here, and I had to tell everyone, it was better than peeing standing up! I used my Mach 3 to finish up, a.k.a. Mach -1000, and it irritated my face more than the Dorko did. I hesitated on my upper lip and chin, it was difficult, but I did the rest of my face without anyone calling a bambulance.

I attached a few pics of my current set up; I went the economical route with some Macgyver inspiration.

If the pics come out, the first is a Fredericks Reynolds, Sheffield. That is after some 150 grit hand sanding, about an hour work. I neglected to take some before pics, but it was pretty blackened with age. I'm going to take my time on this one and see how it comes out, try to leave some of that wear on it, also due to only having up to 300 grit available on hand for wet sanding.

The next pics are my set up. The Sheffeild (ebay), Dorko and Boker Red Injun, which I got from an SRP sale. If you're reading this John, THANKS!

The elaborate brush stand is the Macgyver Air Dry 2K10, Thater brush (25mm?) and a custom handmade pyrex bowl for a soap dish for the Mitchells Soap! The John Deere mug is my attempt at a scuttle, but there have been some flaws in my reverse engineering, it's only temporary.

I've never had Grant's Whiskey, that's as spify as I get compared to some of the fancy pics I've seen on the site trying to spruce up my manly baby blue bathroom tiles! Next time I'll just set out some grenades.

I'm still waiting for a razor I also bought on Strazors, I'll put some of those pics up when I get it and shave with it. Folks are shipping that out to me.

I'm really glad I found this site and tried the Straight Shave. The Mach 3s have always given me some irritation and it always kept me from trying an alternative thinking that was as good as it gets. My face is even a lot smoother than I expected it to be, smoother than a Mach 3 shave as well!

Alright take care guys, see yall on SRP,

    Conrad

That is a nice set up and ingenious brush stand idea, I have to thank you for that, I'll try that as soon as I find a wire hanger around the house.

Welcome to straight razor place, the guys are really friendly and will answer any questions you may have. I've not been here long but, I dread to think what my straight shaving would have been like without this place, but then again, my wallet would've been a bit lighter I think...damn RAD!

    welcome and have fun

    regards alex

Hey Alex. I just used the bottom of a WD40 can to create the base, the rest was simple. I did have to put a bend at the top because the brush was touching the wire material and I thought maybe it could eventually rust. I'd rather replace my stand and not the brush.
    Cheers,
    Conrad
