Thanked: 0Hello from Florida!
Hi, my name is Joe and brand new to straight razor shaving. As of this week I am now armed with a brand new straight razor set from Vintage Blades; Dovo, strop, mug soap...and ready to remove some hair. After using a Mach 3 for the past 12 years I find this to be exciting as well as frightning at the same time. I really want to learn this art but it hasn't been good for my first two shaves; I got the Dovo "shave-ready hand-honed' but my facial hair just laughs at it, and now I'm getting discouraged. I knew that it wouldn't be easy, but just how hard could it be? I dont want to concede that maybe I wasted my money so I am going to hang out here and maybe learn something. Thanks in advance for the wisdom i hope to read from these forums....

Welcome..
Please take your time and do some (preferably a lot of reading) in the Wiki. It has a great deal of information and will help you greatly with your shaving endevors.
It will take more than a few shaves to get the proper angle so that you are shaving properly. Please take you time and do as Lynn suggests and start with the sideburns and cheeks, then progress to the other areas. You will be learning about your face and the way your beard grows so that you may get better shaves.
Good luck.

Thanked: 30Hello there and welcome. Straight razors are an acquired taste but once you get using them down there is no finer shave. Take your time and be patient.

Welcome to SRP. I'm down around West Palm. AFAIK there are a number of members up your way. Take it slow and easy and follow the suggestions in the beginner's guide here and you'll be shaving straight in no time. Especially Lynn's advice on the first straight razor shaves. Takes awhile to get the technique down.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
