Thanked: 1Hello everyone
Hello.
I have been reading through this excellent forum for a while now and recently took the plunge into the world of straight razors. The problem is I think I am now addicted after just a short period of time!
I am currently using a TI 6-7/8 Festonne - historic blade. Figured I would go the whole way Also just recently bought a Abram Brooks Bank on ebay just to use when I need to practise honing - I also want to appreciate the different characteristics of the different razors, already have my eye on a few more ebay purchases!
What can I say, everytime I shave its like I am travelling back in time a little and it feels great. If I could I would be shaving everyday, unfortunately every 2 days is all I need.
Thanks to all the members on this forum for their informative posts and the video's are amazing.

Welcome!
It sounds like you are off to a good start and have jumped in with both feet, which is great..!
You've done the right thing by purchasing a good quality shave ready razor and then going to eBay for honing practice. That way you have a good edge as a reference to judge your own honing efforts against.
If you havent already, check out the Wiki linked in my sig line below as its chock full of useful articles that will help you on your way. If you have any questions you cant find the answers for please feel free to ask or you can contact me by PM direct if you prefer.
Welcome again, make yourself at home and enjoy!

Thanked: 1thanks stubear. Yeah I figured there is no way I want to screw up my good razor with poor honing - not that it should need it anytime soon...but no harm in getting some practise in and seeing what I can do to a cheaper ebay razor - although I have to admit, I think its a very nice vintage razor in its own right so I dont want to mess it up Went down the route of a 5000 and a 12000 waterstone - figured eventually the 12000 should be enough to bring back the edge on the good razor.
I have read through the wiki a few times, and watched all the videos a few times. It's all just down to practise now and getting everything right everyime - which isnt as easy as one would think! I am currently taking about 40mins per shave, happy doing WTG, and XTG - not too good at ATG yet but I am sure it will happen one day - just like the search for the ultimate BBS
thanks again

Just keep trying different ways to stretch your skin and a good shave should follow even if you can't go ATG yet. There are some guys on here that get BBS without even using ATG because of experience with their face.
Enjoy and have fun!
