Thread: Whole New World

Hello and a big thanks for all the great information on this site.

I was recently at my barber and saw all his shaving stuff out so I asked if he did real shaves which opened the door to a long conversation about straight razor shaving. At the end of it all he offered to let me take one of his home to try for a few weeks.

That was all I needed and I have really enjoyed the experience so far. After I returned his razor we started talking about what he might have for sale and he showed me a really beautiful Fontana however he couldn't give me a price as he truly doesn't know the value. I have done a lot of reading (mainly here) but I am still too green to even make an offer based on anything factual. I do know that his price is beyond my means for the time being.

So now I'm reading these forms and want to make a purchase of a razor to learn with and continue on with this journey. Who knows, maybe in a few years I will be able to afford the Fontana.

well, that razor probably also has a sentimental value to the barber.
you could probably get something else in the classifieds or at one of the straight razor vendors and enjoy the hobby.
you would definitely want to get a strop too and regularly strop the razor between shaves.
