Default Just wanting to start Str8 Razors

Hi, I live in Omaha and am looking to start with str8 razors, I've had shaves by a Barber in the past and loved it. I'm sick of paying ungodly prices for refills for my other razors and have never been satisfied with thier shave be it electric to 5 bladed razors they dull to quickly and they are just boring. So I am looking to get into str8 razors. Any suggestions in starter kits. I know that I loved the shaves I have gotten from the barbers but i really want to do it myself. I already collect knives and bows so why not razors. any suggestions and dropping a couple hundred for a starter set is not unreasonable to me. Thanx Jack.

To learn how tu use a straight blade, I started with the shavette type.
You brake a double edge in half and insert the half into it. Costs only 20$ or so.
A great way to learn how to use it before learning how to care for one.

There are a number of starter kits from straight razor designs classic shaving, and others.

You can also put your own kit together a lot cheeper if you want.
A razor from the classifieds will be 1/2 the price of a new on, and just as good.
Ruprazor's filly is a great beginner strop (your first strop will get cut up, so you don't want an expensive one, but you still want quality).
After that, you just want to get a decent badger brush (the $15 ones work fine) and quality soap.

After that just read as much as you can about shaving and stropping technique, and possibly practice the motions with a butterknife.

Straight shaving is very reliant on technique, so focos on good technique as much as you can. Your first few shaves will be sub par, because even if you know what proper technique is, you body won't be able to execute it. Just be patient, and soon you will be getting great shaves and enjoying yourself.

I am not sure who to trust in the classifieds, being new and all. I just want to be sure im getting a good razor so i don't have a bad experience due to a bad razor. I also want to get a good 6/8.
