Learning About Straight Shaving.
Hi, All! I've been straight shaving for about a month now and am slowly getting the 'hang' of it. I've done my share of nicks and cuts but when I do it correctly, it really is the closest shave I've ever had. I had heard that from people I knew that straight shaved but never believed it.
At Halloween this year I portrayed Sweeney Todd (straight razors, and all) with great success, or so i have been told. While preparing for the role, I studied up on straight razors and got out the old Griffon Electro Magnetic razor that my Father-in-Law shaved with. After sterilizing it and stropping it, I attempted to shave with it. The resulting cut on my cheek finally stopped bleeding after about 10 minutes of stiptic pencil application. The scar is still visible after two months. I have improved in my technique but I nick once in a while. Anyway, I aquired a second Electro Magnetic on ebay in excellent condtion and a rebuildable Wade and Butcher notch blade recently. I am in the process of making a burl handle for the W&B using the techniques I am learning here. I can't wait to finish it!
I am proud to be a member of such a great bunch of people. I hope to meet some of you sometime. 'See' y'all! Paul
P.S. My username 'goodsmeagol' I took because Smeagol has been one of my favorite Tolkien characters, and I got to meet Andy Serkis (the voice of Smeagol/Gollum-Lord of the Rings trilogy).
