    Default Looking for some guidance

Well I've always liked the way it looks when you shave with a straight razor. I used to watch my grandfather shave as a kid and always thought it was the greatest thing ever. My grandfather passed away when i was 12 and he left me his razor. The only problem is ive never used one and i had not started shaving before he passed away. he taught me a few things but it was so long ago i cant remember. So now I need help. I wanted to know exactly what ill need in order to get started. Also any recomendations would be good. I know nothing of these brands. Also i think i should practice on another razor before I use my grandpas right?

Welcome to SRP. I would post a photo of your grandfathers razor with the blade exposed. We could tell you if having it professionally honed would be worth the money based on the condition.

If you go to the SRP Wiki beginner's guide here you'll find a lot of good info to get you started. Shaving with a straight razor is very rewarding for those who suffer through the learning curve.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
