Thanked: 0Hola
Just wanted to say hello, I had no idea that there was such a forum but I'm glad this place is here.
I guess you could say I joined the club, bought my first straight razor after standing in the shower with a dull disposable and thinking " this sucks, there has gotta be a better way " I used to be stationed in Turkey and the barbers there use them for shaves and hair cuts. I remembered how smooth and comfortable those Turkish shaves were and I figured I'd give it a go.
Got the Dovo set up from one of the recommended websites and gave it a try tonight. Not to bad, the cheekss are baby smooth, the neck, not so bad, the chin, eeh, I cheated but I got some of it, no cuts, slight razor burn, I figure it will only get better. I grow hair like a sasquatch and I've got a few years left in the military so I shave most every day, I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.
Thanks for all the great tips, great web site!

Thanked: 0Welcome, I just joined this forum not too long ago myself, and am also in the military. After many years of substandard shaving i had bought a DE... Went great till COMNAVWIFEPAC stole it from me and told me to get my own. So am now the proud owner of a TI, and have a Mascotte on the way as well. Still learning the shaving process, and all the good things that come with it. Being on a moving platform most of the time has made learning to shave very interesting, especially in high seas. Anyways, I hope you find everything that you are looking for here, as I have. The Wiki and FAQ sections are chocked full of great information.

Thanked: 2209Welcome to SRP!
Dovo is a good razor, just be sure it was honed ( and not just factory sharp). There is a world of difference.
Be sure to strop just before each and every shave for 30-60 round trip laps.
Beard prep is a must. Hot water is your best friend, it makes those whiskers much softer.
