Call me an Ambulance!
I have been afflicted with Straightrazorllitis
It all started about about 3 months ago, a slow steady interest in the gentlemanly art of straight razor shaving.
I started lurking in forums, watching youtube videos, buying soap.
Christmas was coming & the Mrs uttered those fatefull words "what do you want for christmas love"?
Hmmmm...D.....O....V....O!
2 weeks before Christmas I bottled it (chickened out) and changed my mind "maybe ile have a bottle of Jack Daniels instead love"
But it was too late, the feeling of letting myself down crept in and 48 hours later I was back on it!
Fast forward Christmas morning, I slowly peeled back the wrapping paper to reveal a Jack Daniels Box.
I was gutted! "thanks love" I said not very convincingly. "well aint you gonna open it up"? she said.
Ahhhh the penny dropped, inside the box was a little package of Alum Bar, Styptic Pencil, L Ocitane Cade Soap Dish and... DOVO Best Quality!!
So I done what any self respecting Man with a new razor would, poured myself a stiff drink and headed for the bathroom.
All those stickies I had read, all those youtube videos I had watched ALL went out the window and I was flicking my new pride and joy up & down my best leather belt
First shave (everything but my top lip) and it went quite wel. I was shaking like a leafl, I am sure I have dulled my blade with poor stropping tecnique/belt but it got the job done and apart from a red neck I didnt cut myself.
I now have 3 shaves under my belt and have ordered myself a Filly Strop.
Back to the stickies and videos and I am sure I will have many questions to ask...like, will I be able to sort out a dulled blade without sending it away for a hone?
Anyway, its great to be here amongst other afflicted people

Welcome to SRP, good to hear that you are having a good start! This forum really has an incredible amount of information and lots of stand-up gents who will forget more than I will ever know about straight razor shaving. Not to sound like "that guy" but I would mention that many of us have found out the hard way that booze and straight do not mix well........

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Thanked: 443Welcome to SRP! London seems to be a good town for straight shavers; I saw some truly enviable pictures from a meetup there. Can't remember where they were on this site, though.
Love the giftwrap story.
Best wishes for great shaves!"These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."
