Thread: New guy from norway

After a couple of years of DE shaving ( before some years in cartridge oblivion )
I ventured into the realms of straight shaving.
My wife got me a Dovo Silver Steel Ebony 5/8' for ny birthday, and on I went.
Today, after a bit of braving up, I lathered my soap and took the blade to my face. It took its time, and the lather actually dried up on me three times.
I did not get a spectacular shave, and I now have a slight razorburn on the left side of my neck. But, I loved the feeling of this oldschool ritual.
Can hardly wait for the strop to arrive in the mail so I can strop it up and go again.
This will be fun.
And thanks to you all for contributing your knowlege here ( and on the "other" forum), it helps a lot for a poor newcomer like myself.

Good luck with your straight shaving, I started with a minor disaster and now I get BBS Straight shaves, that feeling is superb

I don`t know if your Dovo was delivered shave ready? I know Mrs. Jorunn at Fitjarsoap.no has a honing service for 200,- kr. It can be useful if you don`t have the stones and hone yourself.

My knife was bought second hand, delivered ready honed and stropped. So I guess it boils down to a matter of practice

I don't have hones myself, and I can't see myself going there for a while yet, so I guess Mrs Jorunn will be my goto service.
I love her soaps / creams btw.
