Thread: New guy from Alabama

I've lurked here for a couple of months and finally registered today. This site has been the greatest help. Though, I do have to walk away occasionally to keep from being overwhelmed with information. I guess that's a good thing. I've been interested in straight shaving for as long as I can remember. So, now it's time. I've found what seems to be a nice razor and strop from a vendor here and if I can finish talking myself into spending the money I'll have a shiny used razor next week. I guess then I'll have to decide on which brush and soap or cream to get as well.

I guess I'll throw a little bit about me out here. I am a senior music major here in Birmingham, AL. Tuba being my primary instrument. I'm fond of my pipe and cigars, sip scotch and am a home brewer. Craft beer, fine tobacco and good music. What more is there to ask? Oh, that's right, a good shave.

Last night I decided to go ahead with my purchase. The razor is a 5/8 Northfield with Full Hollow Grind and the strop is a 24" Russian Shell 165A Leather / Linen Razor Strop. I got these from Mike at therestoredrazor.com. I've done lots of reading to get ready and have much more to do before it gets here. Now to sit and wait patiently and hope that I don't mess up the blade when it comes in.
