Howdy everyone. Im here as a 50+ year old, returning to the bare-blade side of life after (too)many years of scraping my face with cheap, disposable pieces of metal.
I first learned to shave with a straight blade as a teenager when my grandfather, who was a barber, insisted that I learn to give myself a "proper shave". Before long, as is frequently the case with young men, I found myself occupied with work, dating, partying, etc.(not necessarily in that order), and disposable razors, being just so much more convenient, became the norm. The straight razors were neglected, relegated to the back of a drawer, and soon forgotten.
When Grandpa passed away a few years ago I inherited his strop, mug&brush, and a couple of his favorite Dubl Duck blades. I thought at the time that I would one day put them to use again.
That time has come.
I never mastered the art of honing a razor, so I had to track down a local "honemeister" to bring them back up to snuff, but they are now out for a tune-up and soon I will honor my grandpa's memory with a "proper shave".

I just hope my face survives
