    Default hello,new shaver from pennsylvania

hello to everyone, my name is Juan im a 25 year old wannabe shaver, my neigbor introduced me to this great forum after he showed me that straight razor shaving could be practical and not just something a barber does. i never really learned to shave from my dad i kinda just grabbed a razor and some gel and went at it, and since day one it never felt right, i started going to my barber for shaves and got them with a straight razor and alway thought to myself thats how i like my face to feel after a shave, smooth clean and fresh with no burns or ingrowns, as time past i started looking more into it and felt overwelmed and then one day i was talking to dave my neighbor and we started talking about wet shaving with a SR then i found out about this forum and companies making products and i wanted in. so i talked to my wife and i found a boars hair brush and soap and a old spice mug at a antique shop, i called a friend of mine who is a collector of all things and he let me dig through his pile of razors for a couple i grabbed WB in decent shape and off to daves i went after i cleaned the blade up he got it shave ready for me and gave me a strop. I went home and watched Lynn Abram's dvd and showered and shaved. how did i do? and why would i go againt rookie guide and not only shave one section, i figured i rather have burns, nicks or irritation from a straight razor than a disposable again. and i wend one pass WTG all around and it felt great. so after that i picked up a silver tip badger brush and complete lemon scent set from Art of shaving, im still learning alot of things and working on my angles but its a experiance i would not trade. im looking foward to learning as much as i can from everyone here and maybe at some point i will be able to contribute to what is a impressive amount of information.

Congrats on your good start! You're lucky to have a neighbor who shaves straight, and a barber too. You're starting with a far better foundation tham most of us did, I think.
