    Default what are jimps?

New to straight razor shaving (1week) and was wondering what part of the razor is referred to by the term 'jimps',

They are narrow cut grooves either above or below (or both) the tang in the region in which you grasp the razor while shaving. The added texture makes for a more secure grip.

Jimps are the little file marks that give you traction or a better grip on the razor. Sometimes they are on the top and bottom where your fingers and thumb grab the razor, and most of the time, they are just in the area where your thumb goes.
