Default Also new to SR from Belgium

    Hi Guys,

I'm totally new on the forum, since I'm retired now (since Monday, been in the Military for 36 years) I have lots more time to do things that I like. Just last month I restarted shaving with DE razor. Got myself a new Edwin Jagger DE89L and a Silvertip Badger EJ46 and some soaps and creams. I shaved with DE before when I was young, had no problems whatsoever even with Feather blades when I took it up again.

Would like to take the next step and shave with a SR. Have been looking at some SR with disposable blades like the shavette and the Feather AC because there is no need to hone or strop but I probably will go for a real SR. I tried it ones when I was in my 20's but it didn't work (the razor was probably not shave ready)

I found some very good tutorials and movies on the forum and I probably need to read up for a few weeks before buying anything. Since I need to learn a lot I won't buy anything expensive. As I live in Belgium I can get some good stones. Would like to thank all those here that provide so much useful information! Greetings from Belgium, Ron

Welcome to SRP! It sounds as if you have done some good research and honestly know what you want to do, for that I applaud you. I have one suggestion and that is to contact SRP member Bruno. The guy is tops around here and is also located in Belgium, he is literally a fountain of knowledge and experience, it can only do you good to seek him out! Once again, welcome!

    Hey! I'm in Belgium too!!!...

On a serious note, though: welcome to SRP, Snuff! Do get in touch with Bruno. He knows a lot about straight razor shaving and he's a true gentleman.
Regarding the site - post lots of questions and ask whatever you need to know. However, i would advise close study of the wiki articles. Good luck and, again, welcome!

Thanks everyone for the welcome! I'll get in touch with Bruno, didn't know there where others from Belgium here. All I wanted to do was read up on the forum the last few days but people just won't leave me alone ;-) Now that I don't have to work anymore they seem to think that they can use me for all kind of stuff. I'll check out the wiki's first. As soon as I have a idea about what I should buy I'll look for a shop and get started on this journey, might take a while before I get it right but hey if it would come easy where would the fun be in that ;-) Greets Ron

I'm also retired, but from the American Air Force, and now live in Mons.

Seems I remember once someone asking me about Belgian stones as if they are to be found lying on the ground everywhere. I thought it was funny.
