Thanked: 0Hi Everyone!
Hi,
I have been interested in straight edge shaving for a while and it looks like this is a good network of folks so I wanted to introduce myself and say "Hi!" I am married, in military healthcare and currently live in Michigan although I'm headed to DC soon.
I have recently begun to cultivate a pleasure for the rituals of manliness that were enjoyed by our earlier generations which have been pushed aside as we live a life that is continuously more hustle and bustle. These include a daily wet shave with badger brush, soap, safety razor and bay rum, as well as grinding coffee in a hand crank grinder every morning. I have become more interested in using a straight razor and so here I am!
I don't really have any prior knowledge about straight edge shaving, but I would like to learn and so I am soliciting advice on which articles or forum posts are good starters to read for someone who wants to know the ins and outs of straight razor shaving, and also maintenance and care of a straight razor, such as sharpening/honing, as well as recommendations on decent razors to start with, so I am not asking people to re-post redundant materials or answer redundant questions.
I look forward to learning a lot, and participating in the discussion!
Thanks All!
Karsten

Karsten,
I'm only a few months into straight shaving so I'm no expert, but you have come to the right place. SRP is full of the best.
There is nothing like starting the day with a nice calm ritual like straight shaving.
I think the best place to start would be the Wiki up at the top. There is tons of great info in there to get you started. The wiki alone is well worth the admission. LOL The forums are so full of info I wouldn't know where to send you to start. I think you could spend years reading though great threads.
The most important thing is to just get on here and ask for help when you need it. Even asking before you need it. Better to find out how not to mess something up than to ask how to fix it later.
Welcome to SRP,
James

Welcome to SRP. Wiki, wiki, wiki...that and reading Lynn's thread in the Beginner's section, "First straight razor shave-read first."
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???
