Thanked: 0New member, something to show.
Hello. I just recently started getting serious about learning pocketknives. In this process, I have picked up some straight razor information as well. I'm a bit of a compulsive junker, so I end up with all kinds of things.
Anyway, I usually pass up the razors that I come across (although I want to use one someday),but today there was one too special to let go. I offer some pictures and humbly request some information. This ornate, possibly early (I presume, it is stamped 81), ERN razor is in good shape overall. I would like to I.D. it more specifically and get an idea of its rarity. Thank you.

Thanked: 3795I don't consider it to be particularly rare. The scales are replacements. Most Ern razors shave quite well. That's about it on my end.

Thanked: 1371Welcome to SRP!
The scales, which as Utopian noted are replacements, are rarer than the razor.
If you want to be able to shave with it, we can help!

Welcome to SRP. I don't know if your razor is considered rare or not as I am still fairly new to the game, but it looks to be in decent shape. Get it honed and I am sure it will be a great shaver.
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

Thanked: 0Thank you everyone for the fast replies. The scales are a bit loose. I guess I don't know if I should sell it or try to use it. I think that I might offer it for sale if anyone is interested. It might be a better one to collect than use daily. Of course I was hinting about its value, too, because I never want to misrepresent anything. I will search around your board and try to learn some more before I submit my tender jowls to the mercy of my shaky hands.
If I start using a straight razor I will need a user friendly setup. I will hang out and try to learn. Again, thanks.

Thanked: 21These forums do not give a value in dollars. But you will get info as to it being a good shaver or not. And any info imaginable as to there upkeep and use.

Thanked: 0I can understand not putting dollar values on things, talking about money is distasteful to me, anyway. I prefer to trade. I'll probably put this up for sale and just see what happens. It's important for things to find good homes, places where they are appreciated.

Thanked: 1371Your best bet for selling it is to list it on eBay, with the words "celluiloid scales" in the listing along with whatever other keywords you want to use.
The scale collectors will be more likely to find it that way.
Good luck.

Thanked: 0Thanks, I will try. If it doesn't sell, I will keep it and use it. If it sells, I will find a plain one to learn on, I run across them fairly regularly.
Just listed it, thanks again everyone.Last edited by Richie; 02-27-2011 at 05:35 AM. Reason: Clarity and added a postscript
