    Default New to Straight Razors

    Hello all,

I have been shaving with a double edge safety razor for the last 30 years (I am 55). Sadly it has given up the ghost.

I grew up watching my grandfather shaving with a straight razor. I remember that he loved shaving and that it was an almost religious ritual for him. He told me that it made him ready to face the day.

I hate the thought of using cheap throwaway razors or the expensive cartridge razors that are sold today. I figure that it is time that I switch to a straight razor and recapture those moments that I shared with my grandfather. A more relaxing time where he spent time taking care of himself in the early morning hours and left the house knowing that he looked and felt confident and manly.

This a journey that I looking forward to.

    Welcome to SRP!

If you haven't already, be sure to check out the wiki (the button is at the top of your screen). You'll find a useful beginner's guide there, along with lots of other great information to help you get started.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Welcome! I assume you are from Arizona correct? I too am 55 and just started a few months ago for the same reason, watching my grandfather strop that thing up and shave. There is a barber supply in town and a good hone meister in town as well. You will not regret this decision.

Welcome AZshaver--I started last December on my 58th birthday. It's a learning process, but as my results have gradually gotten better the satisfaction is immeasurable.
