    Default Hola, Newbie from CA

    Hello Everyone in razor land,

My name is Mike i live in Orange County, CA. I have been toying with the idea of shaving with a straight razor for quite some time. My girlfriend finally went out and bought me a couple with a strop, brush, soap, and cup. Unfortunately for her(and i as well) she purchased a Zeepk starter kit. She said she didn't like how cheap it looked so she bought be a different razor. I cant tell the brand, its just says gold medal on the blade and was made in china.
I now know from the FAQ that this was a big mistake. Her reasoning was she didn't want to spend a lot on a different razor until she knew i was going to follow trough on the practice. My dilemma now, that i have found this wonderful place to help me through my new shaving journey should i just get the zeepk sharpened professionally try it out for a month or two and if i know i want to continue shaving like this then buy a better one? Or can using one of these razors actually make it so horrible it would turn anyone off to the art of this type of shaving so i would start off on a better foot with maybe a dovo best? Any and all help is appreciated and thanks for reading all of this long winded bull

Also 5/8 or 6/8 full hollow ground is a good razor size and grind to start out with! IMO. Round point will probably be easier but square will be fine too.

    Default Thanks for quick reply

Thanks so much for the quick reply i will take your advice i am still on the fence about which road to take but im sure the answer will become clear soon enough. The dovo "best" 6/8 seems to be big choice for beginners, what about the other razor i mentioned its a bigger blade and it has gold medal stamped on it. When i pull my nail off of it, has a dull ring. I will be cruising this forum as much as i can to gain knowledge, so if there are any other tips you can throw my way much obliged.
