    Welcome to SRP!

You might get a chuckle out of this but this morning while enjoying my coffee I did a Google search for "straight razor hobby" and, wouldn't you know it... there you were. Hookah Forum for Hookah Pro - View Single Post - A different money-sucking hobby...

I hope you enjoy your wet shaving experience and I would recommend you have that 5/8 professionally sharpened as factory honing is a tad rough. That and the beauty supply stores don't do honing like we do. I'm still interested in the razor you got so post some pics if ya got 'em. What brand is it?

If you search our site more you'll see TONS of options for shaving soaps. Seeing that you read the use of gel is good for interim use is a terrific sign you went to our Wiki. That is an excellent start and there is so much more on our forums. Try using the "Search" function if you haven't already and you'll have to make lunch and grab the drinks just to sit down and read it all.

As for getting hones I would just focus on your shaving technique and stropping for now. For some people this can take some time and others learn rapidly but learning to hone will only add to your learning curve, not to mention honing a razor is different from knives and you run the risk of really messing up the fine edge on a razor. Please understand that in a kind and friendly manner.

Please, come in and enjoy your hobby with this new found one and have a good read and don't forget we have chat, too. Plenty of information to be read and tons of great idea. Oh... and bring your friends, too! Ask any questions you like as we are all here to help.

    Enjoy!
