Hi and welcome to SRP. First off, you have a family heirloom razor which means as such, it is priceless. Second, the members here at SRP do not give appraisals on a razor's "worth." Personally I like the scales and could use a couple of more photos of the blade itself. That being said, I think if you're interested in shaving with a straight razor if you are not already, then it appears to be a good start. Send it out to be honed, read the wiki, and post questions as you see fit.

That's a nice looking razor! Those scales actually look like scales! From what I can tell from the picture, the razor will need to be re-sharpened. Once it is, it will be one handy razor.

Thanked: 335Yup, nifty scales. I've always wondered why they're called scales and now I know. It's always good to learn something every day and today has been a bonus day.

Thanked: 2209Yes to the above, clean those scales and have that razor honed up. That just happens to be one ofmy favorite razor grinds and those scales have my brain working overtime!

That is a rare example of the highly poisonous snake razor. They are very dangerous, and it's illegal to own one in most states. They are native to Central New Jersey, and anyone who finds one is bound by law to return them to their natural habitat.
I need you to carefully coax it into the box, pack it and ship it to me - I happen to be in Central Jersey - where I will release it to the wild for you.
No need to thank me; no, please. I'd be remiss to do anything less.
