Hey Guys, been lurking in here a little while and thought i would sign up, so here i am to introduce myself.
I work offshore and generally don't shave when i'm on the rig because it's a pain. I discovered one of the great pleasures in life was having a hot shave in my local barbers when i got back. The other thing i noticed was that i was not getting the razor burn, ingrowing hairs or any of the many other things associated with my old 5 blade gilette. I thought that i wanted to learn this for myself.
I went out and bought myself an AMA 80 disposable blade razor and set to work on my first straight shave. I lathered up with my usual shaving gel and after i stopped bleeding i realised that despite the line of parallel nicks and the partially missing patch of skin on my neck, the actual shave itself and quality of the shave was at least as good as a gillette. It could only get better with practice.
So 5 shaves down the line my techniques getting better, i've acquired some cheap soap and a brush from boots and found that even with these the quality of the shave is infinitely better, not nicking myself anymore except in hard to get at areas (under the nose and cleft in my chin) and then only lightly. No more razor burn, no ingrowing hairs. My face is a happy one.
I'm going to purchase my first proper razor come payday, a starter kit from a nice guy called steve on a site from the uk called the invisible edge, and i can't wait.

yeah the boots soap is decent for the price, but then again you can get puck refills for about £5 (Mitchells Wool Fat) which is good, and Omega brushes are decent and reasonably priced as well.
Welcome to the forums and hello from a fellow Scotsperson.
regards Alex
