Thanked: 0Good Afternoon.
As a begginer to SRP, and the art of straight shaving, I will welcome all help, advice and conversation.
I have played with the idea of straight shaving for a while, and thought an effective way to test it out would be to use a shavette. I have only had a couple of attempts thus far however I am plagued by the urge to go whole hog and get my first razor.
I was all lined up to get a new bone handled DOVO Bismarck, but having read some advice on here (and scaling back my budget) it seems I may be best getting a razor from the classifieds. Has any one any advice (i am looking in the £40 ($60-70) region, the choice seems to be extensive? also I live in England so would need international shipping.
Thank you in anticipation
James

Thanked: 10Welcome James,
Like you, I started out with a shavette. Finally bought a razor from Straight Razor Designs. After my first shave with a real straight razor, I never looked back. The razor came shave ready and was much smoother that the shavette. I loved it and and now am hooked on straight razors.
Straight Razor Designs sold me a set which consisted of a professionally honed razor and a strop. I highly recommend that wherever you purchase your first razor you have it professionally honed by the seller or find someone in your area that can do it. It makes all the difference in the world.
Good luck,
Johan

James,
Welcome and hello from Hastings
Have a peek at :
Mr Neil Miller www.strop-shop.co.uk - hand made straight razor strops, razor pouches, shaving accessories, vintage razors, razor honing and restoration
Mr Steve Dempster http://www.theinvisibleedge.co.uk/
You can get a new Dovo Best, truly shave ready from Mr Dempster for ca 56 GBP, or the house brand razor (also a Best) for ca 52 GBP.
It would be worth-while sending a PM or speaking to Mr Neil Miller (he is a member of SRP) - he could sort you out a razor to suit you
Good luck !
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ
