Thanked: 1Hi from kansas
hi i've been getting a lot of info from every one on this forum for the last month or so and decided i should join i just wanted to tell my experience so far and maybe be able to ask a few questions i haven't seen yet. I bought a straight razor from a flea market at the age of sixteen without any idea what i was doing. After proceeding to turn my face into hamburger three or four times i decided to stop. Fast forward eight years. Two months ago i went to the store to pick up replacement blades for my super duper throw away capitalist money pit called a mach three. i was so disgusted (just like every time) that i turned away and continued to wear my beard. in the back of my head though i started thinking about the straight razor which had been floating around in my collection of knives and various boyhood bladed weapons since i bought. i decided that since i had learned how to properly sharpen and use my various chisels, saws, draw knife, etc. i could do the same with razors and after initial investment possibly save money. So far i've found a w.h. morley in great shape, a belgian yellow grey coticule (5$!!) , and an illinois company strop with out spending over fifty dollars! i'm extremely excited! My honing ability is improving (my original razor a tuckmar gives a rather comfortable shave). And i just starting to dip my toe into the world of scented shaving soaps
