Thanked: 0Hello from Houston
Wolf here from Houston.
Been shaving with a DE for a while and was recently gifted a straight that belonged to my great great uncle. No better time to get started. I am sending it off to get honed up this week and in the duration will be ordering my beginner supplies. Lookin forward to spending some time on here.
Is there a good way to find out info on my razor. Google doesn't help at all.
I tried to upload pics but my browser isn't cooperating with the site. So I'll write what I know.
He was born in the 1860's and died in 1914. The razor says "5 Willi Lange Ohligs-Solingen" on one side. The other side say "Made from Kayser Ellison& Co's Best Sheffield Silver Steel". I realize it was made in Germany but was curious if I could pinpoint the date more or find something about Willi Lange.
Thanks Wolf

Hi there, and welcome to SRP, we're glad to have you with us. On your razor, be sure to check out our Straight Razor Database - there's a wealth of information in there. I'm sure it will be a nice shaver anyways, old solingen razors are reputed to be nice quality. We're looking forward to seeing more of you here soon. Take care.

Welcome to SRP! Unfortunately I can't tell you anything about your razor that you don't already know. If you can get pics to upload that will help things. If you've got a photobucket account you can paste in the IMG links and the pics will show up.
Otherwise, read the wiki here (in the menu bar above) and shop around. The vendors here sell really good products and more importantly (IMHO) are more than happy to help out new guys just getting started. There are some others too depending on what you're looking for.
Let us know when your razor gets back and how things go.
Peace,
