Thanked: 2Hi!
Hello everyone! New member here from Ann Arbor, MI.
I have been DE shaving for 4 months, and have gotten to the point of getting consistent DFS. I wanted a new challenge so I picked up a Parker shavette. Decent shaves, but bloody and unforgiving. I have a couple spots on my chin which are going to scar. But it was enough to pique my curiosity of the straight razor. So now I am looking at getting a nice starter razor/strop and a full set of hones (for both my razors and my hunting knifes. I am thinking the Norton series).
I'll keep tabs on my progress, and let you know if I cut off an ear...

Welcome to SRP.
Sounds like a good plan.
The shavettes, while good, cannot, IMO, not match the superior smoothness of a properly honed straight.
I wish you the best with your new venture!
Any questions you might have, ask them!
I would also like to recommend the Wiki. It contains so much user experience condenced in to a readable and useful formatBjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 10Welcome,
Like you, I started out with a shavette. Finally bought a razor from Straight Razor Designs. After my first shave with a real straight razor, I never looked back. The razor came shave ready and was much smoother that the shavette. I loved it and and now am hooked on straight razors.
Straight Razor Designs sold me a set which consisted of a professionally honed razor and a strop. I highly recommend that wherever you purchase your first razor you have it professionally honed by the seller or find someone in your area that can do it. It makes all the difference in the world.
Good luck,
Johan
