Default It usually takes me more than 3 weeks to prepare a good impromptu introduction.

I would've opened with "Most experts suggest that one should open with a joke. Obviously, they've never heard me tell a joke. ~ Anonymous", but the quote from Mark Twain turned out to be an honest opener for the title of the post.

Anyhow, my name's Andrew Black... and I might be on the road to becoming an aichmomaniac, if my newfound OCD regarding straight razors is any indication. I gave up video games for Lent and decided to pick up a new skill, which is straight shaving. It seems like I trade one addiction for another... bass guitar is hopefully next on the list.

I started shaving with a small Genco that I purchased Shave Ready off E-bay. I've been at it for a few weeks now and only nicked myself twice. Very lightly, just above the right lip under the nose. Both times. Definitely nothing to cry about or deter me though. You guys might even learn that I'm something of glutton for punishment. But since I don't need to get any uglier, I'm investing in a few more razors that might suit me better. I might be developing "RAD" as I've seen it put on here. I've got two more on the way (a Torrey and a Dahlgren Eskilstuna); neither of which are "shave-ready", so I might even be hitting up some of the Senior Members or Vendors on SRP for honing & restoration (seeing as how I'm an ignorant noob at the moment). Provided my ADHD doesn't kick in over the next month and I don't start buying guitar accessories, I may buy some hones and scaling materials and attempt to earn my stripes. But after seeing Max's, Shutterbug's, and others' works on this forum, I might need a Boeing to reach the bar.

To tell you more about me, I'm 31 years old and I'm a licensed full-time Realtor here in Savannah. And since this is a razor/shaving forum and not a dating website, I'll leave it at that. I should've read other people's introductions so I'd have a better idea of what's expected, but I didn't. So I'll apologize if this post is a bit long. My father once gave me advice on making an introduction: be sincere, be brief, and be seated. Too bad I take after my mom.

In conclusion, thanks to all of the members for your posts. I've found a plethora of useful information, advice, and inspiration in threads, comments, and the wiki. My favorite thing about this forum though, is all of the terrific and (painfully) relevant emoticons... like the one for what I've been doing these past few weeks... It's good to be here!

P.S. - For anyone who's tried staring at my avatar to see what it says, it's a transit sign that reads "Touching Wires Causes Instant Death. $200 Fine."

G'day and welcome Andrew, I almost didn't get past all them quotes, allusions to long dead writers and big words. But I'm glad I did... We like the simple things in life here ya know. A good introduction none the less.

I couldn't agree more, the simpler things are some of the best. But you pegged it right-on regarding my fascination with long dead writers. In fact, I believe Shakespheare had something to say about keeping simple pleasures simple. Paraphrased:
    "To gild refined gold,
    To paint the lily,
To throw perfume on the violet,
    Is just ____ing silly."

    Thanks for the response Mick.
