    Default Oregon says hello

    Hello everyone.
A little about myself. I am 19, from oregon, a certified EMT-B, and certified fire fighter type 2.
I have been shaving off and on with my grandfathers old Gillette Super Speed but want to try something new. I picked up a Boker Red-Injun No.101 that once honed, I hear, should suit me relatively well. Cosmetically the blade is in good shape tho it does have a slight frown. There is some light rust where the tang meets the scales. The scales are straight and in good shape other then the crack in the rear (non tree) scale.
I would just like to say ahead of time thanks for all the information on this site it has proved invaluable thus far.

    Thanks

    Monkey

Welcome to SRP, good to have you on board. Great razor you got, provided the concerns are not hindering it's performance. Hit the wiki for some great info, and don't hesitate to ask any questions. Looking forward to your posts, and good luck.

    Welcome to SRP Monkey!

There are numerous gentlemen who can hone that Boker to perfection for you - one of which is Glen (gssixguns). He's in your area of the world (Idaho). He puts a sweet edge on a razor; he recently restored a couple of razors for me. It's 1:30 in the afternoon and my face is still smooth after shaving with one of them this morning. If you get a pro to hone it for you, you'll have a "gold standard" by which to measure. There are a lot of variables involved in shaving with a straight. Starting out with razor honed by Glen will eliminate one important variable. Read the wiki if you haven't already.

Happy shaves, and again, welcome aboard. Ask questions - we're always ready to answer.

    Welcome to Srp.
Yes, the Red Injun is regarded highly around here. Once shave ready, it will hopefully provide you with many a fine shave!
Have a look in the Classifieds under member services, and you will find a bunch of great honers and restorers to help you put that blade in shape!
Good luck with it, and please keep us posted on your progress

    Welcome Monkey,
We are glad to see more from the pacific around here. Glen is a great honer, you'd do well to send your blade north. In fact if you wish to meet him as well as many other great SRPers there is a meet scheduled for late this summer in Spokane. There are also some great guys in the Portland area if you ever head west you could always meet some great shavers.
If you ever have any questions feel free to ask.

Monkey! Welcome to SRP! You will find this a very friendly, helpful and courteous site!

I'm in your neck of the woods! I'm in Walla Walla WA! If you're looking for honing, checkout GSSIXGUN (Glen)!! He not only a Great Honemeister, but does some simply Amaxing Restorations and Custom Rebuilds! Check out what he did with my Great Grandfather's W&B! (By the way, it shaves sooooo Smooth!)

I have a son who just turned 18 on April 16th, 2011. He watched me shaving with a straight last year and decided to give it a try with one of my razors. He liked it! Did his first shave without a nick, cut or razor burn! (Not the closest shave ever, but he did it and was so very proud! Maybe not as proud as I was of him!!!)

For his Christmas present last December 2010, I bought a very nice 8/8 Henkel Friodur! You should have seen the look on his face!

    Again! Welcome!
