    Default Introducing myself...

    Hey,

I've come from Bladeforums and got into straight razor shaving. I got my first straight razor a couple months ago and have been having nothing but problems with the thing, so I figured I'd make an account here to join in discussion

Despite the issues, I love straight razor shaving. It's put a nice dent in my wallet these past couple of months haha.

Welcome to the forum! Straight shaving can be quite problematic at the beginning, but you've come to the right place to get your problems considered and solved.

What manner of problems are you having?

The problem is that my blade (Dovo "Best Quality" 6/8-inch) seems to be warped. It was like that the first time I got it and had to hone it.

On one side, the stone touches the edge at the heel and the tip, but not in the middle. On the other side, the stone touches the middle, but not the heel or the toe.

I've tried to straighten this out for hours and hours, but I just never seem to be getting anywhere. I'm thinking that my diamond stones might not be good for the rebeveling process because they might be missing diamonds at the very edge... So I guess I'll have to wait to get some ceramic or water stones.

In the meantime, I got a razor from Larry over at Whipped Dog to hold me over. It seems like he is well received over here, which is good to hear.

Larry is very well-received here, and with good reason.

Warped blades are hard to hone, and the results are usually not very attractive. I've done it, but the next time I'm going to pass.

Welcome THG! I recognize your handle as I came over from bladeforums as well on the advice of another member there/here. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience here, hope you learn as much as I have.
