    Talking Greetings from Florida!

    Hello Forum,

I have been brought into the world of straight razor shaving by Grimlad who happens to be my father and a member of your community here. He has been pressuring me for quite some time to do the manly thing and give it a try (I admit it does look bada$$), so a few days ago I finally gave it a try. I was quite surprised at how easy it was and the quality of shave it produced. Of course, I had Grimlad their coaching me through it, so I did not end up cutting my face all up. I did get a nick or two but that's because I stabbed myself lol.

I am now looking into getting a razor and learning this forgotten art. I am a poor and struggling college student so I am trying to not spend a ton on getting set up at first. Anyone have any suggestions and/or tips? I would love to hear them.

A little about me: I am an IT security major, live in Florida, I love beer and whiskey, I play online video games, and I have two sisters and a crazy father who gets me into all kinds of crazy stuff.

Hi there, and welcome to SRP! You are lucky to have a mentor in your father, I expect it will make your learning experience better and faster. And grats oin your first straight razor shave as well, well done.
For a budget setup, check the classifieds, or some of the vendors we have. Many sell reasonably priced second hand equipment and it's definitely possible to get a nice starter setup even on a budget.
A boar brush and a Van Der Hagen soap, perhaps a poor mans strop from whippeddog and a straight razor from the classifieds or one of our vendors would be some of the most reasonably priced alternatives, and should not break your bank.
Make sure to browse the wiki, there's lots of helpful info in there, and the video subsection also has great info.
Looking forward to your future posts. Meanwhile, have fun.
