Thanked: 0Newbie from SoCal
I wanted to take the time to introduce myself and say hello to all the fellow members. My name is Tim. I live in San Diego. I've always been interested in straight razors partially because I've been an avid knife collector for years. I think it's amazing to be able to shave manually with a quality tool such as the straight razor. I believe it's really an art. Everything in today's world is about saving time, I belive this has made people lazy and in return a lot of wonderful things such as the straight razor shave have been lost. It's great to see so many talented people here that have kept the tradition alive. I hope to succesfully learn how to shave with a straight razor not just that but also to be able to hone and maintain my equipment. I plan on buying Lynn's DVD to get ahead of the curve.

Thanked: 10Welcome to SRP.
Joining this site and buying Lynn's CD got me a jump start on learning how to shave with a straight razor. You have got into the knowledge base.
Patience is the next requirement. Straight razor shaving for me was a frustrating experience for the first two to three weeks. I got poor shaves. I kept thinking that the fault was in the razors edge. After that period my technique improved and so did the result of my efforts. Now my shaves are smoother than any I get with my fusion razor or even a double edged razor. I love it. It a luxurious experience. I used to hate shaving. Not anymore. I hope you enjoy the experience as much as I have.

Welcome to SRP. The reasons you stated are very similar to why I started straight razor shaving. I loved the idea of being able to maintain a blade and shave with it for the rest of my life. It truly is a lost art and that's a shame. Shaving in this method is truly a pleasure. I wish you the best!

After seeing so many of the pro's do such an efficient job and after months of wet shaving, and experiencing the most comfortable and closest shaves in 25 + years of shaving, I can only conclude that the modern marketing machine has had more influenc than any other factor. As far as saving time... Check out Willy here.
