Thanked: 0The Girlfriend Loves My Smooooth Face
Hey guys,
My girlfriend just hooked me up with a brand new Dovo 5/8" razor plus a strop from RupRazor, some nice avocado shaving cream from Taylor of Old Bond Street, and a new badger brush. Coming first from a Norelco electric back when I was a high-schooler and then switching to a Gilette Fusion a couple years after that, this is definitely a whole new ballgame. But luckily I managed to shave for the first time without anything more than a few slight nicks and a bit of unevenness. Pretty fun though, and I'm excited to start my straight razor journey.

Welcome to SRP!
Keep a hold of that girl! She really set you up!
One Q as you get into this venture; do you know where she got the razor from? (IE: Is the strop just from RupRazor or was the Razor also from RupRazor?) The reason I ask is that some guys have gotten a new Dovo and thought it was ready to go, only to be met with serious discouragement after a few shaves. The reason being that the razor was factory honed, not shave ready, and as a result it seemed sharp enough to the untrained, and seemed to work well to the inexperienced, but it wouldn't hold an edge. You want to make sure it was "Shave Ready" so you don't inadvertently hit your head against a wall in a few shaves.
I'm not super familiar with RupRazors, though I know they're a fairly popular vendor among guys here. I "think" they hone their razors, but one of the guys with more experience with Rup will likely be able to chime in to verify or correct.
Keep us up to date on your journey, and don't hesitate to ask questions!
Peace,
P.S.>>> Reading the Wiki will take you a long way in learning the ins and outs.

And the man himself steps in. The way the OP was worded I wasn't sure if the razor came from you as well or not. Thanks for chiming in!
Peace,

Welcome! We do many things for our girlfriends, straight razor shaving is partly one of these things. Girls like in straight razor shaving three things: it is very brutal from their point of view, the best cleanest shaving ever possible, different soaps, lotions and creams make skin very soft and it's color very healthy.
