    Default HI

    Hi,

I have been keenly interested in straight razors for a few years now. I have been reading the Wiki's on here for the last year or so (thanks for all the great info!)

Having spent most of the last couple of years getting ripped off on ebay for cheap Asian blades, and even resorting to trying disposable straight razors, I'm now really keen on moving on to trying my hand at a bit of restoration work. I just got myself a lot on 5 antique razors and couldnt be happier with them, given that they were so cheap I figure I can use them to learn some noob mistakes at worst, and maybe with some luck (and great advice from the wikis on here) I may even get a useable blade out of it in the end.

    lol

    Anyway Hi everyone!

Welcome to the boards! I have been learning on older "junk" razors myself and they produce excellent shaves.

Welcome to SRP, good to see another member with a desire to restore straight razors.

As you already found out, there is a wealth of knowledge both in the wiki and in the workshop about restoring, and lots of helpful people to answer any questions as they arise. Do let us know how it goes.

PS! The classifieds here can be a good place to check for razors, both on a budget or otherwise.

    Best of luck.

    Welcome to SRP!

First, I'm terribly jealous at the haul you got for that price!

FWIW: The Crown and Sword is an ERN razor and mine is one of my favorite shavers! The one with the tree is a Boker, I have one I'm working on now to get up to snuff but they're beloved by many here. Lastly, the J Rogers & Sons are particularly interesting razors and good shavers as well. More than any other razor I'm aware of they can be dated by the specific markings on them (if they haven't been worn/sanded off) to the reigning head of GB. You'll have to share what all is on that blade to get the info, and I'd suggest doing so in the Razor forum where the experts on these issues reside.

The other two "razors" are for hair cutting, not shaving. They take blades and I'm not sure that a guy can pick up those kinds of blades anymore.

Keep us up to date on your adventures!

    Peace,

    Peace,
Thanks a lot for that info! I have been trying to do a bit of research into what I got and I will put up some pics shortly showing any and all markings.

As for the Durham Demenstrator I found this site Great War Militaria that stocks original blade, I doubt I will buy blades for them as I have almost no interest in them, but who knows it might be fun one day? lol
