Welcome to SRP! We may be able to offer more advice if we know your shave prep and gear, but a good start would be to review our wiki Straight Razor Place Wiki - Straight Razor Place Wiki

    Congrats on the upcoming wedding
A couple of the links in my sig-line would be a great place to start.
    Best of luck!

Welcome to SRP. Congrats on the upcoming wedding. The best tip I can give you is buy all of the razors you want before you say, "I do." Read my sig line below to avoid nicks and cuts.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Not only the razors, but all the associated gear (multiple soaps/creams. aftershaves, strops, etc) too. Congrats on the nuptuals.

Maybe your cousin was trying to sabotage your face for the wedding in an attempt to humiliate you?

Definitely get your razors and gear before you two get hitched, unless you're lucky enough (like me) to have a woman who actually supports your new habit (she enjoys being my aftershave consultant, and even looks for razors for me sometimes)!

I was going to ask the same question, i'm getting married in two months, so i have been experimenting. A freezing cold shave would close your pores up so you would get less irritation, also i'm not going to risk a ATG pass because i've been having difficulty getting a comfortable shave without redness when i go with an ATG pass.

Dovo Astrale, Leather and nylon strops, some random samples of pre-shave oil, soap, and shaving cream from AOS that I had lying around, and a brush that I inheirited from my late grandfather. God rest his soul.

That's pretty much it. I've been shaving every day with this stuff. My only real problem is my neck. I get abrasions no matter what I do. I'm relatively happy with everything else since i'm just a beginner at this.

Thanks everybody for the advice. I've seen the beginner's guide wiki which was very helpful and I'll look into finding a barber for the day of if I don't feel like I can get it by then. For now, I'll keep at it.

Thanks again and I am impressed by the community here. This is great.
