    Default Hello from San Diego

    Hi All,

Jason in east county San Diego. I have recently gotten pack into DE shaving (3 weeks ago). Started good from the first shave. It was like riding a bike.

Now I am thinking I'm going to try straight razor shaving. I'm still reading up on everything I can, and deciding on a good starter kit so that I don't sink too much money into this (yet).

I'll keep the board updated as I make decisions and begin straight shaving.

    Welcome....
Do visit the WiKi for beginner hints and the FAQ.
Also the Classified can have some very fine
tuned up razors for very reasonable prices.

Honing services are worth the money for a beginner
and a lot of us. DE shaving preparation is the
shave as straight razor prep so there is a lot
of value in keeping after the DE shave.

    have fun...

Stay clear of eBay it is just too hard to
    select a decent blade.

    Hello Jason, welcome to SRP!
Toms advice is spot on, apart from that you should have a nice start as you already know the ins and outs of face prep.
Let us know how it goes.

thanks, I've read the wiki here and on B&B many times. I've watched videos, read articles, and am now just taking it all in in anticipation of purchasing a razor and strop in the near future.

welcome to the forum! i started out shaving with a shavette, then moved onto real straights. as previously stated, you can look in the classifieds for a nice, shave ready razor. i know a lot of people rave about Whipped Dog Straight Razor Sales for their first straights. also, many people get the poor man's strop kit from that website too.
