Thanked: 0FNG from Oklahoma
Hey there everyone!
I'm Ken and new, from Oklahoma. Moore specifically.
Anyways, I'm 26, in the Army Guard, and am a aircraft mechanic.
I've been fooling around with a Merkur DE razor for awhile, and just got ahold of two of my father's old straights, a Red Imp from Case and a "Mail Pouch" from Levering Razor Co., both are kind of rough and def. need to be restored, I'm a little nervous doing it myself though. I'm thinking about sending them off and having them professionally sharpened that way I have a proper edge to learn off of. Anyways, Im new, and while I will use the search function, I will probably come up with some dumb question noone has asked yet haha.
Good day!

Welcome! You may come up with dumb questions, but trust me, they've all been asked before. :-)
What kind of planes do you work on?

Hi, and welcome to SRP.
Sending them out to be honed professionally is very good thinking
Check in the classifieds here, lots of pro's advertise there, and they will give you a proper edge to shave with.
Other than that, may I suggest checking out the links in my sig line.
They should get you going in style. Lots of good info in the wiki.
Other than that, ask this place about anything you might wonder about, that doesn't come up in searches.
This place is a friendly place, with a lot of very knowledgeable people.
Good luckBjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Welcome to the SRP. Red Imp is a great razor. +1 on what Birnando says. Asking questions is the best way to avoid blood shed....

Thanked: 0Thanks for all the welcome's!
I REALLY want to get started, but, yeah, it's going to suck having to wait on them to get back. LOL.
Does anyone know about the age of these Levering Razor Co. "Mail Pouch"? Seems like I find them for sale, but that's it. No information.
AFDavis11,
I'm a structural mechanic on helicopters, I've worked on Kiowas, Chinooks, Apaches, and Blackhawks.

very cool! That is the second time I assumed aircraft was an airplane. The first time was even more embarrassing. I've been able to work a little with Blackhawks. Only one I've been able to fly in and "rudder" around in a bit. Pave hawks actually, but similar.

Welcome. You go ahead and ask dumb questions and I'll provide even dumber answers. I have a Red Imp I am getting ready to restore, will be my first complete restoration. Looking forward to it.

gssixgun, one of the top dogs in resto work on razors have made this very good guide to how that can be fixed.
Check the thread out here
That article can be found in the wiki as wellBjoernar
